New Delhi, In a recent interaction with the Indian community in Nigeria, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar applauded India’s strides in digital public infrastructure, drawing a compelling parallel with the United States. Jaishankar emphasized that India now conducts as many cashless transactions in a month as the U.S. does in three years, showcasing the nation’s deep integration of technology.

“The life of every Indian citizen has become easier, and this is because we have embraced technology in a very deep way. Today, we do as many cashless payments in India in a month as much as America does in three years,” remarked Jaishankar at the event.

Jaishankar outlined five key examples highlighting India’s transformation over the last decade, including how the country coped with challenges, improved citizens’ lives, and demonstrated robust economic performance. He commended India’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic and its role in manufacturing medicines for global distribution.

“I take great heart, great hope, and great faith from how India dealt with it. When Covid started, during a virtual meeting in 2020, it was said that the country that will be most unable to cope with Covid would be India. Two years later, I saw that we went through the Covid wave, and lockdowns…we started making medicines for the rest of the world,” added Jaishankar.

Highlighting India as the fastest-growing economy globally, Jaishankar noted the improved business sentiment and record-high investments flowing into the country. He expressed the view that India is undergoing significant development across various sectors, indicating a robust pace of growth.

Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Nigeria, co-chairing the 6th India-Nigeria Joint Commission Meeting and engaging with other leaders. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Nigeria.
