In the midst of the diplomatic tensions between India and Maldives over derogatory remarks made by Maldivian officials following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep, Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has taken a stand in support of Indian tourism.

Shami, a key player in India’s cricket team, encouraged citizens to explore the beauty of Indian beaches. Expressing his views on the matter, Shami stated, “We should promote our tourism. No matter which way the country moves forward, it is good for everyone. PM is trying to make our country move forward, so we should also support it.”

He further highlighted the positive impact of promoting tourism, emphasizing that supporting such initiatives is essential for the nation’s progress.

This statement from Shami echoes the sentiments of several other sportspersons who have criticized the perceived ‘anti-India’ remarks made by Maldivian public figures. The cricketer’s endorsement of Indian tourism serves as a response to the controversy and aims to encourage citizens to explore domestic travel destinations.

As the diplomatic row continues, Shami’s statement contributes to the broader conversation around patriotism and the significance of promoting domestic tourism.
