New Delhi,  In a recent development, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, delivered crucial information in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, shedding light on the plight of Kashmiri migrant families compelled to leave the valley due to escalating security concerns.

According to Rai, the Government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a substantial migration of 46,631 Kashmiri families, encompassing a staggering 1,57,967 individuals. These families are currently registered with the migrant relief organization, highlighting the magnitude of the issue.

In response to this crisis, the government has initiated multifaceted measures aimed at the rehabilitation and support of these displaced families. Rai outlined that a notable step involves the provision of government employment to 5,675 Kashmiri migrants. Additionally, to accommodate those returning to the valley, 6,000 transit accommodation units are in the process of construction, with 880 flats already completed.

The challenges faced by these families extend beyond mere relocation. An online portal, launched in August 2021, facilitates the lodging of grievances related to encroachment, change of title, mutation, and distress sale. Rai reported that this initiative has resulted in the retrieval of 2,924 Kanals and 19.55 Marlas of land.

Moreover, the government has taken steps to address essential needs, issuing ration cards to families without them and providing Ayushman Sehat Cards to those registered for domicile certificates. Rai emphasized the extension of social security schemes, such as Ladli Beti and marriage assistance, to Kashmiri migrant families. The issuance of certificates, including 1,60,856 domicile certificates, 2,035 Resident of Backward Area (RBA) certificates, 902 EWS certificates, and 31,672 migrant certificates, underscores the comprehensive approach taken to address the multifaceted challenges faced by these families.
