Bihar surpasses UP, Bengal, and Jharkhand with 18.13% increase in GST collection

Patna. The Commercial Tax Department of Bihar has achieved unprecedented success in GST collection. The department has collected Rs. 1058 crore in GST cash in 2023-24, which is the highest monthly GST collection in the past seven years. Not only that, but Bihar has also surpassed other states in this regard, standing second in the country. Bihar has outpaced Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal in GST collection.

A total of Rs. 38,161 crore collected
According to information, the total tax collection by the Revenue Department in March 2024 was also Rs. 5403.15 crore, which is the highest monthly collection so far. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the department collected a total of Rs. 34,541 crore in GST and non-GST items, while in 2023-24, the department collected a total of Rs. 38,161 crore.

Contribution of data analysis in revenue collection
The State Tax Commissioner and Additional Secretary of the Commercial Tax Department, Dr. Pratima, said that this achievement is the result of the tireless efforts of departmental officials. Data analysis has played a significant role in this revenue collection. For this purpose, a special cell has been created within the department. The department has access to data from various government departments, and in order to increase revenue, in-depth analysis of data obtained from various departments, especially the Work Department and the Finance Department, is conducted. She expressed hope that the department will continue to work with the same energy and enthusiasm in the upcoming fiscal year. She said that with the cooperation of taxpayers, the department’s tax collection was Rs. 17,236 in the financial year 2017-18, which has now increased to Rs. 38,161 crore.
