Bihar’s Chief Secretary, Amir Subhani, has applied for Voluntary Retirement Service (VRS), which has been accepted by the Nitish government. Consequently, Brajesh Mehrotra is set to become the new Chief Secretary of Bihar.

IAS officer Brajesh Mehrotra, from the 1989 batch, has been appointed as Bihar’s new Chief Secretary. He will assume office on March 4, as announced by the General Administration Department on Saturday. Alongside this, the state government has appointed Chaitanya Prasad, from the 1990 batch, as the Development Commissioner. Chaitanya Prasad will also serve as the Chairman of the Revenue Council and a member, in addition to holding additional responsibilities as the Additional Chief Secretary in the Water Resources Department. Chaitanya Prasad will assume office as Development Commissioner on March 4, coinciding with Brajesh Mehrotra.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Amir Subhani, who had applied for VRS, has been granted approval by the state government. His retirement is scheduled for April 30, 2024, and the government may assign him new responsibilities. There is no official announcement yet regarding Amir Subhani’s successor.

Amir Subhani had previously served as Chief Secretary after Tripurari Sharan. It is noteworthy that Amir Subhani, a 1987 batch officer, hails from Bihar and was allocated the home cadre after topping the UPSC examination. There are speculations that he might be appointed as the Chairman of BPSSC (Bihar Public Service Commission).

In other bureaucratic changes, the current Development Commissioner, Vivek Kumar Singh, has been appointed as the Chairman of RERA. Additionally, there is an impending appointment of an Additional Chief Secretary in the Education Department. It has been approved for the current ACS KK Pathak to take up a central deputation.

After the retirement of Arun Kumar Singh during the COVID-19 pandemic, Amir Subhani was appointed as the Chief Secretary. Following his retirement, the government extended his tenure. Subsequently, Amir Subhani was appointed as Bihar’s Chief Secretary. Amir Subhani hails from Siwan, Bihar.
