PATNA: In a groundbreaking move to curb the influence of sand, liquor, arms, and drug mafias, the Bihar Police has announced the establishment of a Drone Police Unit. This strategic initiative is a key component of the Bihar police’s ‘Mission Suraksha,’ officially launched on Monday.

Jitendra Singh Gangwar, ADG, headquarters, highlighted that the Drone Police Unit aims to enhance the force’s aerial surveillance capabilities, facilitating the swift identification of criminal activities. The plan is currently in its final stages, with consultations underway with the Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand police, which already have similar units in operation. Gangwar mentioned that a proposal detailing the project’s merits would be presented to the state government after a thorough review.

The Drone Police Unit intends to deploy drones in every commissionerate, with plans to acquire around a dozen drones categorized as nano, micro, small, medium, and large. Police officers will undergo training for piloting the drones, and licenses will be obtained from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, particularly for medium and large drones. Interestingly, no license is required for nano drones, readily available in the open market.

Gangwar emphasized that the drones would play a crucial role in monitoring sensitive areas associated with the illegal production of liquor and weapons. Additionally, they would serve as valuable tools for efficiently monitoring and securing large areas, managing and controlling traffic, identifying potential threats, and ensuring crowd safety.

This innovative approach underscores the Bihar Police’s commitment to leveraging modern technology to enhance law enforcement capabilities and tackle organized crime effectively.
