IMD Issues Cold Day Warning In Five States For Next 2 Days

New Delhi,  The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold day warning for the next two days across several northern states, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The “cold day” to “severe cold day” conditions are expected to persist, with dense to very dense fog forecasted to linger over Northwest India during this period.

According to the IMD’s latest forecast, minimum temperatures ranging from 6 to 10 degrees Celsius are anticipated in key regions, such as Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Rajasthan, and parts of East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. The temperatures are above normal by 3-5°C in many parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Haryana, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. However, certain areas in West Rajasthan experience temperatures below normal by 2-4 degrees Celsius.

The IMD warns of dense to very dense fog conditions during the night and morning in isolated pockets across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan until January 7. Subsequently, dense fog is expected in isolated pockets for the following 24 hours. The forecast extends to West Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan on Saturday, with dense fog likely in isolated pockets until January 8.

Furthermore, the IMD indicates that dense fog conditions will persist in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh until January 9, West Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until January 8, and Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha on Saturday and Sunday.

Highlighting the persistence of “cold day” to “severe cold day” conditions in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, the IMD emphasizes the continuation of cold day conditions on Sunday.

In addition to the cold wave, the IMD forecasts a high probability of light to moderate rainfall in various locations across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep over the next 4-5 days.

Residents and authorities are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions to make informed decisions based on the forecasted temperatures and fog conditions.
