In a new development, financial irregularities at Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna, have come to the attention of the Raj Bhavan. Dr. Rameshwar Singh, the University’s Vice-Chancellor, is accused of embezzling over 30 lakhs from the university funds during his tenure. The funds were allegedly obtained under the guise of entrance exam fees from students.

Not only was the embezzled amount significant, but it was also distributed among certain individuals arbitrarily, bypassing established regulations. Following a preliminary investigation revealing discrepancies, the Vice-Chancellor promptly informed the Raj Bhavan. Consequently, the Raj Bhavan has directed a comprehensive audit by the state’s auditor general to thoroughly examine the matter.

In a letter sent by the Chief Secretary of the Governor, Robert L. Chongthu, to the auditor general, a special audit team has been requested to investigate the complete case. The letter indicates that an illicit withdrawal of ₹30,18,900 occurred, with funds wrongly distributed among some university officials and outsourced staff. The current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sharad Kumar Yadav, and Chief Secretary Prof. Shankar Kumar have been instructed to assist the audit team and provide relevant documents.

Academic Advisory Committees Formed Amidst Financial Probe

Simultaneously, preparations for an examination of financial irregularities are underway at the Raj Bhavan, while academic advisory committees have been formed within the university to address educational reforms. These committees, comprising specialists, will propose strategies for revamping existing centers and schools to enhance educational activities. This initiative is deemed crucial for advancing academic pursuits in journalism, geography, nanotechnology, and river studies at the university.

As the investigation unfolds, the university’s reputation hangs in the balance, and corrective administrative measures may be implemented in the near future.
