In a strategic move to garner support from the Dalit community ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, JD(U) plans to host a ‘Bhim Sansad’ in Patna on Sunday. This event holds considerable significance following the recent caste survey, revealing that the SC/ST community constitutes more than 21% of Bihar’s population. The JD(U) aims to position itself as a champion for this community, potentially impacting the electoral landscape.

Leaders anticipate over a lakh attendees, considering it a significant boost for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Addressing the event’s purpose, Minister Ashok Choudhary stated, “This is not a display of our strength but a demonstration of unity to safeguard the Constitution and democracy, both at risk.”

Choudhary highlighted Nitish Kumar’s commitment to the SC/ST community, emphasizing the need to empower the Chief Minister further. Despite the positive outreach, he acknowledged that the caste survey indicated 43% of SC/ST individuals living below the poverty line in the state.

JD(U) intensified efforts post-survey findings submission, recently initiating the Bhim Sansad raths flagged off by Nitish Kumar. This initiative aims to connect with the Dalit and Mahadalit communities, while also projecting Nitish as an advocate for the OBCs. In response, the BJP is organizing outreach programs targeting various caste groups, seeking to consolidate its position in the run-up to the elections.
