In 2023, state-sanctioned wars intensified, claiming innocent lives and habitats across the globe. The conflict between Israel and Hamas reached unprecedented levels, with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to continue bombing Gaza despite international calls for a ceasefire.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin condemned Israel’s actions while simultaneously intensifying the offensive in Ukraine. The war in Ukraine continued, with challenges faced by both Russian and Ukrainian forces.

Civil wars and military coups plagued Africa, with Sudan collapsing into civil war, resulting in thousands of casualties. Military coups unfolded in Niger and Gabon, further destabilizing the region.

Myanmar witnessed a slow-burning civil war following a coup that overthrew the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Afghanistan faced militant attacks two years after the Taliban takeover, particularly affecting girls’ education.

The article sheds light on the global landscape of conflicts, from drug-trade-fueled violence in Central and South America to nuclear concerns in India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Iran.
