HYDERABAD:The swearing-in ceremony for the newly-elected Congress government in Telangana faces delays as disagreements emerge among senior leaders regarding the choice of Chief Minister. TPCC president Revanth Reddy’s name is at the center of the discord.

The Congress party has postponed the swearing-in of the new Telangana government due to objections raised by some senior leaders against Revanth Reddy’s nomination as Chief Minister. The party has sought consensus among its members, leading to a delay in the inauguration.

A special flight to Delhi carried Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar and other AICC observers armed with opinions gathered from 64 MLAs in one-on-one meetings. The details will be presented to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, aiming to build consensus within the party.

Despite dissent, a majority of MLAs have reportedly thrown their support behind Telangana Congress president Revanth Reddy. Former CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Sridhar Babu were also named as potential Chief Ministers during discussions.

The disagreement extends to the post of Deputy Chief Minister, with Bhatti opposing the idea of multiple deputy CMs. He contends that if denied the CM’s post, he should be the sole Deputy CM with a significant portfolio.

Discord further extends to the positions of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, TPCC president, and Deputy Chief Ministers. The party awaits consensus to proceed with the swearing-in, and the role of TPCC chief may be assigned to a senior leader if Revanth Reddy assumes the CLP leader position.
