KOLKATA: West Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury on Sunday hinted at a similar style of functioning of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, while highlighting the “deplorable condition” of farmers across the country and in West Bengal.

“BJP had promised to double the income of the farmers, but the farmers are feeling cheated today. In Bengal, chief minister Mamata Banerjee had promised to increase farmers’ income three times. But these are simply promises and the condition of the farmers in Bengal is nothing better. Neither Modi nor Didi lived up to their promises,” Chowdhury said.

Alleging that the BJP is using the Ram Mandir issue as a political ploy, Chowdhury said that the temple is no longer restricted to religion now. “Ram Mandir is no longer restricted to religion but has become a political ploy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to use the issue for his political gains. I would urge the BJP not to turn the Ram Mandir into a political ploy,” he said.

Chowdhury on Sunday had also taken a dig at the internal feud in the TMC. “The Trinamool Congress has been faction-ridden for a long time. It has gripped the party like cancer and is pushing it towards its terminal stage. Whether it is Barrackpore or any other district, the party is reeling under factionalism. The rift in TMC is increasing as is bound to happen for interest-based politics. It is the same thing that can be witnessed even at the top rung of the party,” he said.
