In a bold move, former Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentarian, Subramanian Swamy, has voiced his intent to challenge the Indian Telecommunications Bill 2023 in the Supreme Court. His law associates join him in this stand, and Swamy recommends that the Modi government postpone its passage in the Rajya Sabha until after the 2024 General Elections.

The bill, recently approved in the Lok Sabha on December 20, seeks to replace three existing Acts governing telecommunications. Notably, it grants the Centre authority to assume control over mobile networks and ensures protection for accredited journalists from interception.
