New Delhi: Addressing concerns about the invitations to the Ram Temple inauguration event on January 22, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international working president Alok Kumar stated that there is no political motive behind the invitations extended to leaders across major political parties.
Alok Kumar responded to queries about whether opposition leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were invited, saying, “If they (opposition leaders) come, we will welcome them with respect.” Kumar emphasized that the invitation was extended to leaders irrespective of political affiliations.
The VHP leader highlighted that personal invitations were made to leaders like Kharge and Gandhi by VHP and Trust officials. He stated, “This event belongs to the entire country, and they all are welcome.” Kumar questioned the notion of politics being involved in the invitations and mentioned that inviting leaders from various political backgrounds demonstrates inclusivity.
Sonia Gandhi, as the chairman of the Congress Parliamentary Board, was invited, and Kumar clarified that the invitation was extended due to her position, not political considerations. The VHP leader reiterated that the intention is to welcome all leaders irrespective of their political stance.
While there has been no official confirmation from the Congress regarding the attendance of Sonia Gandhi, Kharge, and Chowdhury, the controversy over the Ram Temple event has sparked varied responses from political leaders and groups. The Congress party has yet to clarify its stance on the matter.
The VHP maintains that the inauguration event is a significant occasion for the entire nation, emphasizing inclusivity and welcoming leaders from diverse political backgrounds.
