United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President, Dennis Francis, extolled India’s momentous G20 presidency as he lauded its leadership for rekindling nations’ collective obligation to safeguard our shared planet.
“India’s recent stewardship of the G-20, firmly anchored in the profound theme of Vasudeva Kutumbhakam, has etched a historic milestone and reverberated the message of ‘one earth, one family, one future.’ Within this overarching theme, India has compellingly reminded us of our indivisible connection to this singular world we collectively inhabit, and the imperative to safeguard it,” he remarked.
Addressing the ‘International Conference on Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ at the United Nations headquarters, President Francis also vehemently condemned the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, a tragic conflagration that has regrettably claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians and left thousands grievously wounded.
President Francis emphasized, “I have unequivocally denounced the escalating violence in the Middle East and the resultant tragic loss of innocent lives on both sides. Undeniably, the deteriorating security situation starkly contradicts the ideals of ‘One World, One Family’ and, indeed, the cherished principles of unity and solidarity.”
Furthermore, he articulated, “Across the globe, countless people are enduring suffering and are growing increasingly apprehensive due to conflict, turmoil, and the vulnerability exacerbated by various crises—from climate emergencies to pandemics, and even disruptions in global supply chains. Our era is becoming progressively unstable by the hour, and it is consistently the marginalized and frail members of society who bear the brunt.”
President Francis underscored the vital importance of unity and solidarity during these challenging times, asserting that the clarion call of “One World, One Family” resonates with the compelling need for global support.
He added, “It is during these moments of profound disquiet and distress that we frequently discover the strength to come together, whether out of a yearning for solidarity, solace, or both. The intrinsic human inclination to seek out a community of support remains steadfast. Hence, I express my profound gratitude for India’s leadership in reminding us of this profound truth.”
