Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, in a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi, ardently implored Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ameliorate the business environment within India, envisaging the achievement of the ambitious 5 trillion yen investment target. The Japanese premier expressed that the Japan-India relations have witnessed steadfast progress in recent years and emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts to enhance the investment climate in India. This endeavor seeks to materialize the five trillion yen objective for public and private investments, along with financial support from Japan to India, over the next five years, a target delineated in March of the preceding year.

Both leaders mutually commended the allocation of a substantial 400 billion yen loan earmarked for the ongoing high-speed rail construction project in India.

Prime Minister Modi, after his deliberations with PM Kishida, conveyed, “Held productive talks with PM Kishida. We took stock of India-Japan bilateral ties and the ground covered during India’s G20 Presidency and Japan’s G7 Presidency. We are eager to enhance cooperation in connectivity, commerce, and other sectors.”

The two nations, India and Japan, expressed their eagerness to fortify collaboration in various domains, encompassing connectivity, commerce, and other pivotal sectors.

Kishida also extended his felicitations to Prime Minister Modi for the historic achievement of Chandrayaan-3’s successful lunar landing.

Additionally, the two leaders resolved to collaborate in preserving and bolstering a free and open international order grounded in the principles of the rule of law. They also concurred on fostering advancements in technology, including the domain of space exploration, as stated by Japanese officials.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement elucidating that the leaders acknowledged the constructive and consistent dialogue between the two countries throughout the year, notably in the context of their respective G20 and G7 presidencies. Their dialogue has been instrumental in elevating the concerns and aspirations of the Global South.

Furthermore, the discussions between the leaders encompassed a wide spectrum of facets pertaining to the bilateral partnership between India and Japan. These included infrastructure development, technological collaboration, investments, and energy. Both leaders reiterated their unwavering commitment to further intensifying the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, as affirmed by the MEA statement.
