In a picturesque scene, several parts of Kashmir, including the city of Srinagar, were adorned with fresh snowfall on Saturday. The Meteorological Department forecasts moderate top-heavy snowfall across the valley in the next 48 hours.

Officials reported that snowfall began in the higher reaches of Kashmir in the early morning, gradually extending to the plains as the day progressed. Day temperatures are anticipated to range between zero and three degrees Celsius in most places across Kashmir.

Avalanche warnings have been issued for hilly and mountainous areas, emphasizing the need for caution among residents and motorists due to slippery roads.

While the intense cold conditions eased last night, temperatures remained several degrees below the normal for this time of the year. Notably, the Gulmarg skiing resort in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 10.6 degrees Celsius, and Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir reached minus 8.3 degrees Celsius.

Despite the conclusion of the 40-day harshest winter period, known as ‘Chilla-i-Kalan,’ earlier this week, Kashmir continues to experience a cold wave. The valley is presently in the midst of a 20-day-long ‘Chilla-i-Khurd’ (small cold), to be followed by a 10-day ‘Chilla-i-Bachha’ (baby cold).
