In a significant move, the government’s ongoing digitalization of land records and registrations is anticipated to contribute a notable 1.5% increase to India’s GDP, according to Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Giriraj Singh.

Addressing the two-day Bhumi Samvaad VIII conference, Singh emphasized the transformative role of modern technologies, including Blockchain, in revolutionizing land management, aligning with the government’s Gatishakti mission. The completion of digitalizing land records is expected not only to alleviate the substantial backlog of land dispute cases but also to enhance the country’s ease of doing business ranking.

The minister highlighted key government initiatives such as the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (Bhu-Aadhaar), Transliteration of Land Records, and the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS). These initiatives aim to provide land records in multiple languages, improve ease of doing business, and establish a unified registration system for the entire nation.

Discussions during the conference delved into the positive impact of digitalization on reducing litigation, process times, and costs, as well as promoting credit access through digitized records. Land Resources Secretary Nidhi Khare emphasized the importance of such gatherings in sharing successful practices and exploring scalable innovations in land governance.

Minister of State for Steel & Rural Development, Faggan Singh Kulaste, highlighted the broader implications, stating that the digitalization process would help reduce the backlog of court cases related to land disputes and ensure transparency in identifying correct beneficiaries for government land acquisition compensation.

The comprehensive transformation towards digitalized land management is seen as a crucial step towards achieving the government’s vision of transparent governance, ensuring that the benefits of schemes reach citizens at the grassroots level.
