As the traditional lean travel season from January to March begins, IndiGo has decided to withdraw the fuel surcharge introduced last October due to reduced aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. The airline, citing recent cuts in ATF costs, stated that the surcharge removal is effective from January 4, 2024.

The fuel surcharge, initiated on October 6, 2023, ranged from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 (taxes extra) based on the distance. IndiGo emphasized that as ATF prices are dynamic, they will continue to adjust fares to respond to any changes in prices or market conditions.

In the wake of rising ATF prices, several airlines had implemented fuel surcharges in October 2023. However, IndiGo’s move to withdraw the surcharge comes as a result of recent reductions in ATF costs. The removed surcharge was structured as follows:

– Rs 300 (taxes extra) for distances up to 500 km.

– Rs 400 for 501-1,000 km.

– Rs 550 for 1,001-1,500 km.

– Rs 650 for 1,501-2,501 km.

– Rs 800 for 2,501-3,500 km.

– Rs 1,000 for distances beyond 3,501 km.

IndiGo affirmed its commitment to adjusting fares in response to market dynamics, maintaining flexibility in line with changing fuel prices.
