As the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections unfolds, the country witnesses the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct across various regions. Amidst this, the Congress party has raised objections against advertisements featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image and promotional content, submitted before the Election Commission. Congress has released a comprehensive list of BJP advertisements, prompting complaints to the commission for appropriate action.
Congress alleges that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is flouting the Model Code of Conduct by manipulating issues such as the 2G allocation controversy in its misleading advertisements. Congress has urged the commission to remove such advertisements and take necessary action.
The party further accuses the BJP of utilizing official resources in its advertisements, including the improper use of armed forces in violation of several directives issued by the commission.
Additionally, Congress has filed a complaint regarding a WhatsApp message allegedly sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the utilization of the Prime Minister’s Office letterhead for such promotions. However, the Election Commission swiftly ordered a halt to such practices.
Furthermore, Congress has objected to advertisements featuring Prime Minister Modi’s image in Delhi Metro and petrol pumps, citing violations of the Model Code of Conduct. The party asserts that such advertisements should be removed from government premises and establishments, as they constitute a breach of conduct regulations.
Congress has also provided a list of objectionable advertisements released by the BJP, including videos falsely claiming to stop the Russia-Ukraine war and advertisements labeled as “Modi’s Guarantee.”
The party’s complaints highlight the contentious intersection of political campaigning and ethical standards, as parties vie for public support during the electoral season. As the Election Commission reviews these grievances, the outcome will shape the integrity and fairness of the electoral process.
