In a significant joint operation, the Doraha police, in collaboration with the Crime Investigation Agency, successfully apprehended three individuals, unearthing a sizable stash of 260 grams of heroin from their possession. The arrested trio comprises Abhishek Shahi (26), a gym trainer hailing from New Raju Colony at Tajpur Road, Sagar Thakur (24) from New Shiv Shakti Colony, and Akashdeep Singh (22) from Jamalpur Awana at Chandigarh Road.
The operation unfolded as the police team strategically set up a checkpoint near the PUNSUP Godown in Doraha, acting on confidential information. During the routine checking procedure, the team intercepted the three individuals traveling on a motorcycle. A subsequent frisking revealed the substantial quantity of heroin in their possession.
Abhishek Shahi, identified as the gym trainer among the arrested, Sagar Thakur, currently unemployed, and Akashdeep Singh, employed as a factory worker, are now facing charges under sections 21, 61, and 85 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act. The Doraha police station has officially registered a case, and the seized motorcycle has been impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.
Superintendent of Police (SP, Investigation) Pragya Jain shed light on the criminal histories of the accused. Sagar Thakur is entangled in two cases, including one related to murder, while Akashdeep Singh faces charges of snatching in two separate instances. Abhishek Shahi, the gym trainer, is currently undergoing trial in a drug peddling case.
The SP emphasized that the arrests mark a significant development, and further information is anticipated as the accused individuals undergo questioning.
