South Mumbai is set to witness the inauguration of the South-East Corridor of the Coastal Road between Worli and Marine Drive today. This extensive project is also known as Phase 1 of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the project construction last Thursday.
Initiated in 2018, the estimated cost of completion for this project, spanning 13 kilometers, is approximately ₹12,721 crores. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde mentioned that a world-class central park, spread across 320 acres, will be developed along the Coastal Road. The road has been named Dharmveer Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road.
In the first phase of the inauguration, a 10.5-kilometer stretch of the road will be opened for traffic, allowing entry from Worli Seaface, Haji Ali Interchange, and Amarson Point, with exit points at Amarson Garden and Marine Lines.
To enhance traffic management, the Mumbai Police has announced partial opening of Dharmveer Sambhaji Maharaj Marg from Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road to Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction and Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction to Marine Drive for vehicular traffic and transportation from Monday to Friday, 6 AM to 8 PM.
Entry points include Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction, Rajni Patel Junction (Lotus Junction), and Amarson Garden, while exit points are Amarson Garden and Marine Drive (Princess Street Bridge).
The following vehicles are restricted from entry:
– Heavy vehicles, trailers, mixers, tractors, heavy goods carriers, BEST and ST buses, passenger vehicles, and all goods carriers.
– All two-wheeled vehicles, bicycles, and motorized scooters for disabled individuals.
– Three-wheeled vehicles, animal-drawn carts, and pedestrians.
Additionally, speed limits are set at:
– 80 km/h on straight roads.
– 60 km/h within tunnels.
– 40 km/h at curves and entry/exit points.
The inauguration is scheduled for Monday, March 11, and stringent measures are in place against stopping vehicles, exiting vehicles, and capturing photos or videos on the road.
