In a distressing incident reported by Mumbai resident Yash Mehta, HDFC Bank loan recovery agents are accused of harassment and verbal abuse over the non-payment of an EMI by a relative. Mehta took to social media to share details, stating that he received threatening calls from an agent named Neha, who not only harassed him but also verbally abused his father and grandfather. HDFC Bank has responded, acknowledging the matter and assuring a prompt investigation.

Mehta revealed in his online post that someone else took the EMI, and HDFC Bank resorted to calling relatives of the person to recover the loan, including him. He expressed concern over the breach of privacy, questioning the bank’s right to share his information when he is not related to the person who took the loan.

In response to Mehta’s tweet, HDFC Bank apologized for the experience and assured a thorough investigation. The bank stated, “We have subsequently spoken to you and noted your feedback and are investigating the matter on priority. Please allow us some time to come back on this with a resolution.”

Mehta, in the comments section, shared that the loan amount was ₹3,500 and that the bank has committed to resolving the issue by January 16, 2024.

The tweet, posted on December 24, has gone viral, garnering over 1.2 million views and numerous comments. Many social media users expressed their concerns and shared similar experiences, while others questioned the accountability of financial institutions in such matters.
