Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed his support for the women’s reservation bill introduced by the Modi government at the Centre. However, he has added some conditions, including the inclusion of quotas for women from Other Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes. Nitish Kumar also criticized the delay in conducting a census, which is necessary for the bill’s implementation. He emphasized the importance of conducting both a census and a caste headcount. Notably, Nitish Kumar has long advocated for a caste census, which has been a contentious issue. The opposition bloc INDIA, led by Nitish Kumar, has promised to conduct a caste census if it comes to power after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
