In a significant announcement during the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College’s diamond jubilee celebration in Indore, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya revealed the government’s commitment to establish at least one medical college in each district across India. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to transform all districts into ‘Ayushman’ districts.
Mandaviya, speaking at the inauguration of a Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) sub-zonal office and Central Drug Testing Laboratory (CDTL) in Indore, emphasized the importance of this initiative. He laid the foundation stone for various facilities at AIIMS, Bhopal, and inaugurated several health facilities in Madhya Pradesh.
The Health Minister highlighted the role of medical colleges in monitoring public health, contributing to the eradication of diseases. He stressed the dream of opening AIIMS-like institutions in all states, with 17 already established in the last decade.
The CDSCO sub-zonal office is expected to enhance the quality of medicines and ease business for pharmaceutical stakeholders in Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, Mandaviya inaugurated facilities such as a drone station, Dexa scan suit, gym complex, and trauma and emergency operation theatre complex at AIIMS, Bhopal.
