New Delhi, A storm of controversy erupted in the Lok Sabha as DMK MP DNV Senthilkumar S referred to Hindi-speaking states as ‘Gaumutra states’ following BJP’s landslide victory in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. The remarks drew criticism from various political quarters.
Senthilkumar asserted that BJP’s influence is primarily limited to the heartland states, while BJP leaders countered, suggesting he undergo mental treatment. The BJP’s strong response came in the wake of its recent triumphs in state assembly elections.
The comments, deemed disrespectful by some leaders, triggered a heated exchange of words in Parliament. Senthilkumar later apologized, stating he would refrain from using such language in the future.
Political leaders from various parties voiced their opinions on the controversy. Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi called Senthilkumar’s comments a “sheer disrespect of Sanatani tradition,” while Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey hinted at further BJP victories in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Critics, including Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao and DMK’s detractors, warned against divisive language in political discourse. Amid the verbal sparring, Senthilkumar clarified his intentions and apologized for any unintended offense.
As the political landscape heats up, questions arise about BJP’s prospects in South India. The controversy adds fuel to the ongoing debate about the party’s influence beyond the heartland states.
