Nawada: Magadh, a land steeped in history and pride, played a significant role in Bharat’s fight for freedom. In the districts of Gaya, Nawada, Jehanabad, and Aurangabad, ordinary people, including farmers and workers, took a stand against British rule, leaving an indelible mark on the pages of history.
Around a century ago, the voices of dissent began to rise in Magadh. People expressed their desire for self-rule, which greatly upset the British rulers. Inspirational figures like Hasan Priest, Satchidananda Sinha, and Bajrang Dutta Sharma delivered powerful speeches, boldly challenging the British dominance.
The year 1919 witnessed a tragic event in Jallianwala Bagh, which sparked outrage across Magadh. People showed their anger by refusing to work and holding protests. The Nagpur Congress Conference also highlighted the courageous efforts of Magadh’s people, and the visit of Mahatma Gandhi served as a source of immense inspiration.
Gandhi’s teachings ignited a fire of determination among the youth of Magadh. Many joined the Bharatn National Congress, a group striving for Bharat’s freedom. Peaceful protests, such as boycotting British goods and not cooperating with British authorities, became their powerful tools.
In the quest for education and enlightenment, Magadh’s youth found visionary leaders like Krishna Lal Sinha, who established schools to nurture knowledge and determination. The Tilak Swaraj Fund further empowered their struggle by providing financial support.
Despite facing challenges, the flame of resistance continued to burn brightly. The pivotal year of 1942 saw Magadh fully embracing Mahatma Gandhi’s call to “Do or Die.” The people of Magadh disrupted British operations by halting trains and rendering post offices non-functional. Finally, in 1947, Bharat achieved independence.
Magadh’s legacy of fighting for freedom lives on. The efforts of everyday individuals, including farmers and young minds, were nothing short of extraordinary. Names like Mishra Singh, Nunu Singh, and Lalo Student shine as beacons of courage and determination. Their inspiring stories fuel our spirits even today, reminding us of the incredible sacrifices that paved the way for a free Bharat.
