New Delhi: In a shocking turn of events, Delhi faced a humiliating nine-wicket loss to Puducherry at home in the opening match of the Ranji Trophy season. Captain Yash Dhull paid the price for the dismal performance as selectors promptly removed him from captaincy for the next match in Jammu. Himmat Singh will lead the team, with Ayush Badoni retaining his position as vice-captain.

Delhi’s defeat has brought attention back to the structural issues plaguing the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Head coach Devang Gandhi emphasized that Yash Dhull is crucial to the future of Delhi and Indian cricket. The decision to relieve him of captaincy aims to allow him to focus solely on his batting.

Reflecting on the chaos within the selection committee, a DDCA official revealed confusion in team selection and disagreements among selectors. The absence of commitment from senior players and factional influences have contributed to Delhi cricket’s recent struggles.

The defeat against Puducherry underscores the need for stability in team selection and a concerted effort to foster a sense of security among players to take responsibility.
