Former Real Madrid and Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, a once-promising star whose career was marred by injuries and struggles, has officially hung up his boots at the age of 32. This decision comes four months after his departure from the Spanish giants.

Hazard, the former Belgium international, embarked on his Real Madrid journey in 2019 as the club’s record-breaking signing. Unfortunately, his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu was marred by persistent injuries and a lack of adaptation during a lackluster four-year stint. Nevertheless, despite his limited time on the pitch with Real, Hazard managed to capture several prestigious trophies, including the coveted Champions League and two LaLiga titles.

In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram, Hazard expressed his decision, stating, “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time. After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer. I was able to realize my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world. Now is the time to enjoy my loved ones and have new experiences.”

Hazard’s football journey began when he joined Chelsea in 2012 from Lille. During his time with the London club, he achieved significant success, clinching the Europa League in 2013 and 2019, in addition to securing the Premier League title in 2015 and 2017. He also added the League Cup and the FA Cup to his impressive list of accomplishments.

On the international stage, Hazard made his senior debut for Belgium in 2008 and went on to score 33 goals in 126 appearances. He played a pivotal role in leading the Belgian national team to a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup. However, following their early exit during the group stage at the last World Cup in Qatar, Hazard decided to retire from international football.
