Despite high hopes and promises, Nawada residents find themselves in a waiting game as the much-anticipated railway project connecting Nawada to the state capital, Patna, via Bihar Sharif, experiences unexpected delays. A year has passed without visible progress, leaving the community frustrated.

Bihar’s Nawada and Bihar Sharif were slated to be directly connected by a new railway line, aiming to eliminate the need for train changes on the route to Patna for the people of Nawada.  The railway line estimating a cost of approximately 10 billion rupees based on surveys conducted by the Danapur Railway Division.

The ambitious project outlined the laying of about 31 kilometers of rail tracks, including the construction of 61 small and five large bridges. Additionally, eight railway crossings and 14 underpasses were planned to facilitate seamless passage over rivers and streams. The operationalization of the new railway line was expected to significantly reduce the travel distance between Nawada and Patna, providing a direct train connection.

Currently, the journey from Nawada to Patna requires changing trains and covers a distance of around 205 kilometers. The proposed railway line aimed to halve this distance, resulting in a shorter journey of approximately 110 kilometers.

The project also included the establishment of four stations—Saamaay, Adamapur, Naanand, and Pawapuri—between Nawada and Bihar Sharif, promising improved connectivity and accessibility for residents in these regions.

Despite months of extensive surveys, the railway ministry’s submission of the survey report and cost estimation to the Ministry of Railways did not translate into immediate action. The frustration among Nawada district residents has intensified as the promised construction, initially scheduled to commence last year, faces delays, casting a shadow on the prospects of enhanced transportation, reduced travel time, and increased connectivity for the communities in Nawada, Bihar Sharif, and the surrounding areas.
