In a gripping encounter in the Ranji Trophy, Assam’s Riyan Parag left a lasting mark with a breathtaking century that will be etched in the tournament’s history. Parag’s phenomenal innings of 155 off 87 balls, including a staggering 12 sixes, propelled him to the second-fastest century in the prestigious tournament.

The Assam captain’s brave effort, coming in the face of a daunting task, unfortunately, ended in a losing cause. Despite Parag’s spectacular hitting display, Chhattisgarh secured a convincing 10-wicket victory, chasing down 87 runs in just 20 overs.

Assam’s struggle began when they were forced to follow on after being dismissed for 159 in response to Chhattisgarh’s 327. Facing a challenging situation at 78/2 in the second innings, Parag walked in with an intent-filled mindset. His lack of support from the teammates prompted Parag to accelerate, and he did so in style, scoring at a rapid strike rate of 178.16.

However, the rest of the Assam batting lineup failed to complement Parag’s extraordinary effort, as they were eventually bowled out for 245. Despite Parag contributing more than half of the team’s total, Chhattisgarh’s dominant performance ensured a comprehensive victory.

While Riyan Parag’s heroic innings will be remembered as one of the bravest in Ranji Trophy history, it couldn’t alter the outcome of the match. The top five fastest centuries in the tournament now include Parag’s remarkable 56-ball century in 2024.
