Disturbing events unfolded during a Chicago White Sox baseball game at Guaranteed Rate Field, as a shooting incident left two women injured on Friday night. According to the Chicago police, a 42-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her leg, while a 26-year-old woman endured a graze wound to her abdomen. The older victim’s condition was reported as fair, as she received medical care at the University of Chicago Medical Center. In contrast, the younger victim declined medical attention, as conveyed by the police statement.

Authorities emphasize that the provided information remains preliminary due to ongoing detective investigations. The White Sox organization and investigators are grappling with uncertainty regarding whether the gunshots originated from within the ballpark or outside its confines. The unfortunate injuries occurred within Section 161, situated in the left-center field.

The announced attendance for the game was 21,906, witnessing a disappointing 12-4 defeat for the Chicago White Sox against the Oakland team. Following the match, a postgame concert featuring artists Vanilla Ice, Rob Base, and Tone Loc was regrettably canceled due to purported “technical issues,” according to a team spokesperson.

In response to the incident, the Chicago Police Department swiftly reacted, deploying additional resources in collaboration with White Sox security to ensure the well-being of attendees and personnel at the event. A comprehensive assessment determined that there was no immediate active threat to public safety.

Major League Baseball acknowledged its involvement, noting ongoing communication with both the team and Chicago police to glean further insights. White Sox security conveyed that the incident did not stem from any altercation, providing assurances in this regard.

During this challenging time, the White Sox organization expressed its concern for the victims’ well-being and offered wishes for their swift recovery.
