PATNA: In a sweeping operation, the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) in Bihar executed raids at multiple locations, revealing a startling accumulation of disproportionate assets worth approximately Rs 7 crore associated with Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, an executive engineer (electrical) serving with the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, posted in Banka.

The meticulous raids, meticulously orchestrated at the engineer’s office, official residence in Banka, residential edifice in Bhagalpur, ancestral domicile in Purnia, and an apartment in Patna’s esteemed Danapur locality, led to the seizure of a substantial Rs 40 lakh in cash. An official from the SVU revealed the astounding discoveries.

The SVU’s comprehensive investigation illuminated Mr. Gupta’s ownership of nine land parcels, cumulatively appraised at Rs 1 crore. Additionally, a Patna apartment, valued at Rs 35 lakh, a Bhagalpur-based residence and storage facility, worth Rs 35 lakh and Rs 30 lakh, respectively, and a Creta automobile worth Rs 15 lakh were within the clutches of the SVU. The investigative teams also confiscated an array of valuable ornaments, documentation of LIC policies, and land deeds.

This exhaustive operation was initiated following the SVU’s diligent registration of a case against the engineer under multiple sections of the IPC Act on a preceding Tuesday.

Startlingly, the vigilance sleuths also chanced upon two bank lockers under the engineer’s and his wife’s name, in addition to ten bank accounts and fixed deposits exceeding the threshold of Rs 30 lakh across various financial institutions.

“The engineer’s compensation over his eight-year tenure amounted to roughly Rs 66 lakh. However, the cumulative value of movable and immovable assets extracted from his possession stands at an astonishing Rs 7 crore,” proclaims an official statement released by the SVU.

This unprecedented revelation has sent shockwaves throughout Bihar, raising pertinent questions regarding the integrity and accountability of public servants entrusted with such esteemed responsibilities.
