In a recent development, the organizing committee of the 50-overs World Cup in India is actively engaged in securing visas for both fans and media personnel hailing from Pakistan. The International Cricket Council (ICC) responded to complaints lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), shedding light on the intricate visa process.

Notably, the visas for the Pakistani cricket team were granted mere 48 hours before their departure for India, marking their first tour of the nation since the T20 World Cup back in 2016. The geopolitical tensions between the two neighboring nations, who are fierce cricket rivals, have cast a shadow over the sport. They only engage on the cricket field during multi-team events such as the World Cup.

Despite receiving a warm welcome in Hyderabad, led by Captain Babar Azam, the Pakistani team voiced their disappointment regarding the lack of support from the stands. Many Pakistani fans remain stranded in their home country due to visa-related issues.

In response to the situation, an ICC spokesperson issued a statement to Reuters, asserting that it is the responsibility of the host nation to address these concerns. They emphasized the earnest efforts being made to resolve the visa complications, ensuring a smooth experience for Pakistani fans and media.

The PCB expressed its dismay over the visa delay in an official statement, highlighting the immense pressure it has placed on the organization. They underscored the importance of Pakistani journalists and fans in adding vibrancy to the stadium atmosphere and contributing to global coverage and appreciation of the game.

Furthermore, the PCB has consistently reminded the ICC of their obligations and the members’ agreement pertaining to visa issuance for fans and journalists over the past three years. They have been actively engaging with relevant authorities to address these concerns.

In terms of on-field performance, Pakistan commenced their campaign with an impressive victory over the Netherlands. Their next challenge awaits as they prepare to face Sri Lanka, setting the stage for a clash between two former champions in the upcoming match on Tuesday.
