In an unexpected turn of events, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has withdrawn from the first two Tests against England due to undisclosed personal reasons. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has swiftly responded by adding Rinku Singh to the India A squad for the second unofficial Test against England Lions in Ahmedabad.

The BCCI, led by former pacer Ajit Agarkar, announced this last-minute change, emphasizing their strategic approach to keep options open. The selection committee, in a statement, mentioned that a replacement for Kohli would be revealed “soon.”

Rinku Singh’s inclusion in the India A squad for the second four-day match indicates a keen interest from the selectors in testing his capabilities in red-ball cricket. Despite making a mark in T20 internationals with an impressive average of 89 and a strike rate of 176, Singh’s prowess in first-class cricket, amassing 3109 runs at an average of 57.57, makes him a compelling choice.

While Singh is not ahead of Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan in the red-ball pecking order, the ongoing India A vs England Lions match holds significance. With KL Rahul likely to take Kohli’s spot in the Test XI, the replacement announcement may come after the first Test, aligning with the timing of the India A match.

India ‘A’ squad for the 2nd multi-day match includes Abhimanyu Easwaran (Captain), Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, and the newly added Rinku Singh, among others. The 3rd multi-day match squad maintains a similar composition.

As cricket enthusiasts await updates on both the India A and Test squads, the unexpected twist in player selections adds intrigue to the upcoming series against England.
