New Delhi, Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar expressed optimism about India’s chances of securing their first-ever Test series victory in South Africa. In an exclusive conversation on Star Sports after India’s convincing win in the opening ODI against South Africa, Gavaskar confidently stated that this could be India’s best opportunity to conquer the “final frontier.”

Gavaskar highlighted the absence of key South African bowlers Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada, emphasizing that India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, could capitalize on this situation. He noted that if the Indian batting lineup plays sensibly, they have the potential to post scores of 400 or more, taking advantage of the depleted South African bowling attack.

The cricket legend acknowledged that the 2018 series was a missed opportunity for India, but he believes the current team has a strong chance to clinch the series victory. He urged the Indian team to capitalize on the opportunity and emphasized the importance of consistent and substantial scores to give the bowlers ample opportunities to dominate.

India is scheduled to play two Test matches against South Africa, with the Boxing Day game set for December 26 and the New Year’s Test starting on January 3. The return of captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, along with the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin, adds strength to the Indian squad.
