In a striking remark about Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, former pacer Shanthakumaran Nair Sreesanth highlighted the “street-smart” qualities of the veteran opener, drawing parallels with the legendary MS Dhoni. Reflecting on Rohit’s leadership at the ICC World Cup 2023, Sreesanth mentioned Dhoni while praising Rohit’s approach to captaincy.
Rohit Sharma, who led India in the 2023 ICC World Cup, guided the team to an impressive ten wins in ten matches before facing a defeat in the final against Australia. Despite the setback, Rohit received acclaim for his leadership on the field.
Sreesanth, a World Cup winner from the 2011 edition, commended Rohit’s captaincy style, stating, “He’s a street-smart cricketer and he’s somebody more like Dhoni bhai who doesn’t just get off the scene straight away.” The former pacer highlighted Rohit’s supportive role, emphasizing that even in challenging situations, Rohit ensured he backed up his fielders and maintained a camaraderie with the team.
Commenting on Rohit’s approach during the World Cup, Sreesanth noted, “Even in the World Cup, the players who were not playing he was going to them asking for suggestions. Yes, he’s the captain, but he’s been there as their brother and been there as their best friend. So it’s very important. So I think that’s one of the best qualities a captain can have.”
Rohit Sharma, who scored 597 runs in 11 matches during the 2023 World Cup, is set to lead India in the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa.
