In a much-anticipated development, Rishabh Pant, the talented wicketkeeper-batsman, has finally addressed the swirling rumors regarding his potential return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the upcoming 2024 season. Speculation gained traction when Pant was seen at a Delhi Capitals camp in Kolkata last month, alongside key franchise figures like Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting, and Pravin Amre.

Pant, who has been out of action since a harrowing car accident in December 2022, disclosed that he is still on the path to full recovery. The accident resulted in severe damage to all three key ligaments in his right knee, necessitating an extended period of rehabilitation at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru throughout 2023.

While glimpses of Pant resuming batting activities surfaced on social media in the latter part of this year, the status of his wicketkeeping skills remained ambiguous. Recent reports from ESPNCricinfo hinted at Delhi Capitals’ eagerness to bring Pant back into the playing XI, possibly even as the team’s captain.

Addressing the media on the eve of the mini-auction in Dubai, Pant shared insights into his ongoing recovery journey. He acknowledged being in a much better state compared to a few months ago but emphasized that achieving 100% fitness is still a work in progress. When questioned about the specifics of his rehabilitation, Pant reflected on the challenges of professional cricket, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support he received during his challenging times.

With Delhi Capitals reportedly gearing up to include Pant in their squad for the IPL 2024 season, the dynamic player has until March to finalize his return. If he does make a comeback, it will mark Pant’s first appearance since the Bangladesh tour in late 2022.
