Patna: Amidst the hustle and bustle of the Lok Sabha elections, the security of opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav has been reinforced. Alongside, the decision has been made to increase the security of BJP leader and former Deputy CM Tarakishore Prasad. Both leaders will now be provided with Y-Plus category security. The Home Department has issued directives to the DGP to arrange for their security. Prior to this, the security of Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Jha and MLA Anil Kumar was also heightened.
The Home Department has written to the Police Headquarters
The Home Department has instructed the Bihar Director-General of Police to provide security to both former Deputy Chief Ministers. The decision was made by the state government based on assessments and reports received during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It is noted that approximately a dozen security personnel, including several commandos, are usually deployed under this category. It is noteworthy that Tejashwi Yadav has already commenced his election campaign from Purnia.
Government had reduced Tejashwi’s security
When Tejashwi Yadav was the Deputy Chief Minister of the state, he was provided with Z-Plus security. However, his security was withdrawn on January 31 after he left office, and he was provided with the security usually accorded to ministers. Now, the Nitish Kumar government has provided him with Y-Plus security. On the other hand, the decision to provide Y category security to Tarakishore Prasad was made during the Agnipath movement in July 2023 but was later revoked. Currently, he is entitled to security provided to legislators. Now, both will be under the umbrella of Y-Plus security.
