New Delhi – In a strategic move, the Indian government has extended invitations to key political leaders for an all-party meeting scheduled for the 17th of September. This gathering precedes the much-anticipated five-day special session of Parliament, slated to commence on the 18th of September.
The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi, took to the social media platform X to announce this pivotal development. Invitations for this crucial meeting have been dispatched via email to all relevant stakeholders.
The initial announcement of a “special session” by Minister Joshi on the 31st of August was notably devoid of any specific agenda. Amidst this ambiguity, speculation has been rife regarding potential topics for discussion. Notable suggestions include the Women’s Reservation Bill, the Uniform Civil Code, simultaneous polls, and other significant subjects of national importance.
Moreover, there is anticipation that this special session may mark the transition of Parliament proceedings from the old building to a new, modern facility. Speculation has also swirled around various proposed agendas, such as the potential renaming of India to Bharat and the ‘One Nation One Election’ proposal.
The government’s reluctance to disclose the session’s agenda has drawn criticism from opposition leaders. Jairam Ramesh, the Congress General Secretary, voiced his concern, stating that with the session merely five days away, the agenda remains shrouded in mystery. Ramesh further criticized the Modi government for what he termed the “distortion” of parliamentary conventions, asserting that in the past, the agenda for special sessions was publicly known well in advance.
As the nation eagerly awaits the upcoming special session of Parliament, the political landscape remains charged with anticipation and intrigue.
