New Delhi- Vedanta Limited, led by Ani Agarwal, has extended a warm invitation to Japanese firms to partake in India’s “electronics manufacturing revolution.” This call to action aligns with Gujarat’s efforts to strengthen Japan-India relations and was conveyed in an official statement released by Vedanta.

Akarsh K Hebbar, the Global Managing Director of Vedanta’s semiconductor and display business, emphasized the growing demand for electronics in India. He highlighted the role of Indian government initiatives such as “Make in India,” “Digital India,” and the “100 Smart Cities Mission,” all of which aim to boost local manufacturing, digitalization, and technological advancement.

Hebbar spoke at a gathering of Japanese industry leaders at the Embassy of India in Tokyo and Osaka during a two-day roadshow. He further pointed out that the increasing internet penetration and e-commerce adoption have amplified the demand for electronics in India, a nation with a population exceeding 1.4 billion, presenting substantial opportunities for global electronics companies.

Vedanta is actively pursuing the development of a semiconductor chip manufacturing plant in Dholera, Gujarat. Hebbar’s message to Japanese leaders was a call to collaborate with Vedanta in establishing India’s first electronics manufacturing hub in Gujarat. This ambitious project has the potential to attract hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses and generate over one lakh jobs.

He emphasized that there exists an $80-billion opportunity for companies willing to invest in this electronics manufacturing hub. Vedanta is poised to serve as the anchor for Japanese companies seeking investment prospects in India.

Vedanta’s existing relationship with Japan includes agreements with 30 Japanese technology firms forged late last year to stimulate the growth of India’s semiconductor and glass display manufacturing ecosystem.

This development showcases Vedanta’s commitment to fostering collaboration and investment in India’s electronics manufacturing sector, aiming to meet the increasing domestic demand and contribute to the nation’s growth in this pivotal industry.
