Bhopal, September 15, 2023: In a candid address to students at the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar rebuked individuals who seek to sully India’s international reputation, especially during a period when the world is extolling its progress.

Without explicitly naming anyone, he expressed his dismay, remarking that “certain individuals become agitated when our nation achieves remarkable milestones.” He emphasized the astounding progress India has made, earning accolades from the international community and the International Monetary Fund (IMF, who dubbed India a shining economic light).

Dhankhar lamented, “When India achieves something remarkable, some individuals experience discomfort and actively seek to tarnish our country and its institutions. They embark on global journeys to ignite controversy. Such behavior is unprecedented among responsible citizens.”

As the ex-officio chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar also highlighted the unparalleled freedom of expression available within the Parliament. However, he noted that extending the time for discussions, though done in the past, is fruitless when discussions fail to materialize.

The Vice President underscored the critical role of a free press in a democratic nation, asserting that journalists bear immense responsibilities. He urged them not to align with any political party or become instruments in their agenda-setting, stressing that press freedom thrives when the press acts responsibly.

Dhankhar applauded Madhya Pradesh’s accomplishments in irrigation, power, and education, advocating for development to be perceived beyond political lenses. Regarding the recent G20 summit hosted in New Delhi, he pointed out that despite global accolades for the Bharat Mandapam venue, some individuals contested claims of flooding, demonstrating an inability to accept the country’s praise.

In conclusion, the Vice President cited the Indian-origin president of the World Bank, who commended India’s economic progress over the past six years. Dhankhar emphasized the necessity of high morale among the populace for continued national advancement and urged people to view development objectively, setting aside political biases.

The convocation ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Madhya Pradesh Public Relations Minister Rajendra Shukla, Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav, and Bhopal Lok Sabha MP Pragya Singh Thakur.
