In a decisive move, the BJP central leadership announced Vishnu Deo Sai as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, bringing an end to the speculation surrounding the state’s leadership. The decision was revealed after a crucial meeting of the BJP’s 54 newly-elected MLAs in Raipur.
Vishnu Deo Sai, upon being selected as the Chief Minister, expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the people of Chhattisgarh under the BJP’s ‘Modi Ki Guarantee.’ The initial focus of the Chhattisgarh government will be sanctioning 18 lakh houses to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The BJP, which secured a landslide victory in the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls with 54 out of 90 seats, had refrained from declaring a CM face during the elections. The party’s election manifesto, titled ‘Modi Ki Guarantee 2023,’ outlined key commitments.
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who resigned on December 3 after the BJP’s victory, extended congratulations to Vishnu Deo Sai and urged him to advance justice and progress in the state.
Sources suggest that two Deputy Chief Ministers will also be appointed in Chhattisgarh. Vishnu Deo Sai, a former BJP state chief, won the Kunkuri Assembly seat with 87,604 votes, positioning him as a strong tribal face for the party.
Vishnu Deo Sai has previously served as the Union Minister of State for Steel in the First Modi ministry and was the BJP Chhattisgarh chief from 2020 to 2022.
