Vivek Ramaswamy wants US to stop entering foreign conflicts: ‘My pitch is…’

In a recent interview with Reuters, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy unveiled his ambitious plan to make non-interventionist foreign policy a central tenet of his campaign. He aspires to position himself as the candidate least inclined to embroil the United States in foreign conflicts. In a bold move to reassure potential supporters, Ramaswamy intends to introduce a formal pledge in Miami, just prior to the third Republican primary.

Should he secure the Republican nomination and subsequently triumph in the 2024 general election, Ramaswamy plans to mandate that all political appointees within his administration sign this pledge. Furthermore, he intends to encourage elected officials across the nation to do the same.

This pledge, aptly named “No to Neocons,” encompasses three overarching policy principles: the recognition that avoiding a third world war is a paramount national imperative, the conviction that war should never be the preferred course of action, but rather a last resort, and the resolute belief that U.S. policymakers must prioritize the welfare of American citizens above all else.

Ramaswamy’s announcement comes in the wake of a public dispute with fellow Republican contender Nikki Haley over their differing foreign policy stances. He vocally criticized Haley for advocating policies that could potentially lead the United States into perilous conflicts, particularly through her support for providing military aid to Ukraine and Israel, positions that Ramaswamy staunchly opposes.

Notably, former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner in the Republican race, along with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who currently holds a distant second place, also share reservations about extending military or humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

This marks a pivotal moment in the 2024 presidential race, as Vivek Ramaswamy seeks to distinguish himself with a non-interventionist foreign policy agenda that he believes will resonate with both the American public and policymakers. The pledge he has introduced, “No to Neocons,” is poised to become a litmus test for those seeking positions within his administration, while simultaneously serving as a clear signal to his supporters.
