Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin, in a ten-minute video posted on X, raised questions about the contributions of the Union government to the people of Tamil Nadu. The video featured Finance Minister Thangam Thennarsu dismissing Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s claims about central funds released to Tamil Nadu.

Stalin emphasized the resilience of his Dravidian model of governance, which, even during crises, supported the people by providing a Pongal cash gift of Rs 1,000 along with a gift hamper. He highlighted various projects funded by the state, such as free bus rides benefiting women with savings of Rs 1,000 per month.

The Chief Minister underscored the government’s efforts, including the monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 under the Pudhumai Penn scheme and Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, supporting girl students in higher education and women heads of families.

Stalin posed a crucial question, stating, “What has the Union government, responsible for protecting the interests of Indian states, done for the people of Tamil Nadu?” He referred to the detailed reply given by Tamil Nadu’s Finance Minister to the Union Minister’s speech.

In response to the Chief Minister’s comments, there have been contrasting opinions, with some questioning the effectiveness of the state government’s initiatives.
