In a notable turn of events, top-order batter B Sai Sudharsan, riding high on a year of impressive performances, secures his maiden call-up to the Indian squad for the ODI series during the South African tour. Sudharsan, 22, has been a consistent performer throughout 2023, marked by significant contributions in various tournaments.
Having showcased his prowess with a 47-ball 96 for Gujarat Titans in the IPL final and a century for India A in the Emerging Asia Cup, Sudharsan’s inclusion in the national squad for the South African tour underscores his growing stature in Indian cricket.
Expressing his excitement, Sudharsan remarked, “This will be my first time in South Africa. I’ve heard there will be good pace and bounce. I will just get ready for that and hopefully go there and get some volume (of practice). I don’t think there will be too many changes. The only thought I have is to go there and adapt quickly to the conditions. I am excited by the challenge, first to play for the country and then to go for an overseas tour.”
Reflecting on his experiences in English conditions while playing for Surrey in the County Championship, Sudharsan emphasized the benefits of exposure to different playing conditions and cultures. He believes that the lessons learned in England will contribute to his performance in South Africa.
Sudharsan’s journey from a standout IPL performance to earning a contract with Surrey and now representing India in the upcoming ODIs against South Africa showcases his rapid ascent in the cricketing world.
