New Delhi, As the capital prepares to mark the 75th Republic Day, a weather advisory from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned Delhiites about moderate to dense fog enveloping the city in the early hours of Friday. The ‘orange alert’ predicts visibility challenges with conditions expected to gradually improve as the day unfolds.
Foggy Start to Republic Day Celebrations
The city is anticipated to experience dense fog until 8:30 am, with visibility limited to 100 to 400 meters. However, as the day progresses, the fog is expected to transition to a milder form, with visibility ranging between 500 to 800 meters from 10 am onwards. By the commencement of the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path around 10:30 am, the fog is likely to disperse further, giving way to misty conditions and improved visibility ranging from 800 to 1500 meters.
Extended Weather Impact Across North India
The foggy conditions are not limited to Delhi alone. The weather department forecasts dense to very dense fog in many places across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Isolated areas in Uttarakhand and Rajasthan might also encounter dense fog. Additionally, cold day to severe cold day conditions are expected in specific locations of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh, along with isolated places in Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Rajasthan.
Temperature and Humidity Insights
Thursday saw Delhi recording a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The maximum temperature hovered around 20.5 degrees Celsius, just one notch below the normal range. The relative humidity at 5:30 pm stood at 69 percent.
As the city readies itself for the Republic Day festivities, the weather conditions add an extra layer of anticipation, with citizens advised to plan accordingly for the foggy start to the day.
