New Delhi, In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on the Lok Sabha security breach, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the PM of avoiding a debate on the incident. Ramesh hinted that the Opposition’s standoff with the government will persist until Home Minister Amit Shah provides a statement in Parliament.
PM Modi, in an interview with Hindi daily ‘Dainik Jagran,’ expressed the need for a probe into the incident rather than a debate. The Opposition, demanding a statement frome Minister Amit Shah, faces a continued impasse with the government after 14 MPs were suspended for “unruly” behavior.
Jairam Ramesh, in a social media post, stated, “The PM is running away from a debate for a very simple reason. Questions will be raised on the role of the Mysuru BJP MP Pratap Simha in facilitating the entry of the intruders into the Lok Sabha on December 13th.”
On December 13, two individuals breached security, leaping from the visitors’ gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber, causing commotion with smoke canisters. The incident has sparked demands for Amit Shah’s resignation. The government emphasizes the Lok Sabha secretariat’s accountability for security within the Parliament complex.
PM Modi asserted that probe agencies are investigating the incident, emphasizing the need to uncover those behind it. He urged a collective spirit in finding a solution while downplaying the necessity for debate. The Opposition continues to press for a statement by the Home Minister.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern over the security breach, terming it a serious matter. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi called for PM Modi’s statement in Parliament on the security breach.
The incident remains a focal point in parliamentary discussions, with the Opposition and government at an impasse over the handling of the breach and its aftermath.
