In a surprising turn of events in Himachal Pradesh politics, Chief Minister Sukhhu has proposed his resignation amid the state’s political crisis. The development follows the defeat of Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh in the Rajya Sabha elections, prompting Singh to resign despite a clear majority in the state. Singh, son of former CM Virbhadra Singh and the head of Himachal Pradesh Congress, accused the party of negligence post his electoral loss, raising serious allegations against the leadership.

Vikramaditya Singh, born in 1989, is the scion of the prominent Singh family in Himachal Pradesh. A two-time MLA from the Shimla Rural constituency, he has been actively involved in state politics and served as the president of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress between 2013 and 2017. Singh, an alumnus of St. Stephen’s College in Delhi, has won the trust of the people with victories in the 2013 and 2017 state assembly elections.

The political landscape is now under scrutiny as the Congress, holding 40 seats out of 68 in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, faces internal challenges. Singh’s resignation and the suspension of 15 BJP legislators by Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania have added complexity to the situation. With the state assembly in session, the fate of the Congress-led government hangs in the balance, raising questions about the future trajectory of Himachal Pradesh politics.

The recent Rajya Sabha election defeat, where BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan prevailed over Congress’ Abhishek Manu Singhvi, suggests a rift within the Congress ranks, with six legislators reportedly voting against the party. As the political drama unfolds, the state awaits the resolution of the ongoing crisis, keeping a close eye on the shifting dynamics within the Himachal Pradesh political arena.
