In a recent Speech in Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, ignited a significant political controversy with his comments on “Sanatan dharma,” drawing parallels with diseases like malaria and dengue.
Speaking during a public address, Udhayanidhi Stalin expressed his view that Sanatan dharma should not merely be opposed but “eradicated” from the country, citing it as being “against social justice and equality.” These remarks have triggered a considerable uproar in the realm of Tamil Nadu and southern Indian politics.
As reported by ANI, Udhayanidhi Stalin stated, “Certain things cannot be opposed; they should be completely abolished. We don’t oppose dengue, mosquitoes, malaria, or corona. We strive to eliminate them. Similarly, we must eradicate Sanatana dharma.”
During his address, the political leader also conveyed his appreciation for the conference organizers, who named the event ‘Sanatana Abolition Conference’ rather than ‘Anti-Sanatana Conference.’
Subsequently, numerous political leaders from the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and various right-wing groups expressed their vehement displeasure at these statements. Nevertheless, Udhayanidhi stood by his words, clarifying that he did not advocate for the genocide of individuals practicing Sanatan Dharma.
“Sanatan Dharma is a principle that fosters division among people based on caste and religion. Uprooting Sanatan Dharma is synonymous with upholding humanity and human equality. I steadfastly stand by every word I have uttered. My words were a representation of the voice of the oppressed and marginalized, who endure the repercussions of Sanatan Dharma,” conveyed the DMK leader on X.

In response to a tweet from BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, Udhayanidhi expressed his readiness to confront any legal challenges arising from his statement and implored for an end to the dissemination of false information.

“I am prepared to face any challenges, whether in a court of law or in the court of public opinion. Please refrain from spreading misinformation,” Udhayanidhi stated.
He continued to assert his stance, affirming, “I will reiterate today, tomorrow, and for all time: Our determination to eliminate Sanathana Dharma from the Dravidian land remains unwavering.”
